We base this on the official data from Samgöngustofa (island.is) and what you enter from the listing — and we always show where something comes from.
What a source does not provide, we do not invent. So you know exactly what you can build on.
What the report includes

Frequently asked questions
Where does the data come from?
From Samgöngustofa (island.is), the official source for vehicle data in Iceland. Plateop combines that data with the listing you enter yourself; we never fetch listings from other sites ourselves.
Do I need the license plate?
Yes, for the official data you do — the Icelandic license plate is two letters followed by three digits (for example AB123). Without a plate you can enter the car manually, but then there is nothing to check your input against.
What does a report cost?
ISK 820, one-time. You pay for this one report — no subscription and no account needed — and can read it straight away.
Do I need an account?
No. Plateop works without registration or login: we ask for no name, email address or password and build no profile. The list of your reports lives on your own device only, and your report is reachable through its own link.
Is this an inspection or an appraisal?
No, neither. Plateop does not see the car and does not drive it, so we do not assess its technical condition and do not issue an official value — if in doubt, always have a car inspected independently.
What can you not see in Iceland?
The inspection history, the mileage history, the damage history, whether there is a lien on the car, and the engine data (fuel type, engine size, power) — this is the thinnest of our registers. We do see the basic register data, the validity of the inspection, the registration status, and recalls at make/model level (not vehicle-specific).
How reliable is the advice?
The advice from Plateop is a tool, not a mechanic's verdict. The automated analysis is not allowed to invent model-specific problems it has no reliable knowledge about and says so when something is unknown — always check the important points yourself.
